Inkwell Privacy Policy Effective date: May 27, 2026 Inkwell is a reader application for interactive fiction, published by Systema Obscura. This policy describes what information the app collects, what it sends over the network, and what is stored on your device. What Inkwell does not collect Inkwell does not have user accounts, does not log in to any service, and does not collect personally identifying information of any kind. The app contains no analytics SDKs, no advertising SDKs, and no third-party trackers. What Inkwell stores on your device The app stores the following data in its private storage area on your device: Catalog metadata for games you install (title, author, description, identifiers) from IFDB Story files you choose to install, downloaded from public archives Cover art images you choose to install Application settings (theme, font, line spacing, and similar preferences) Game save state, written by the embedded interpreter This data never leaves your device. Uninstalling the app removes all of it. What Inkwell sends over the network The app makes network requests in two situations: Browsing or searching the catalog. The app makes requests to the public IFDB API at ifdb.org to fetch game metadata and search results. Each request identifies the app with a custom User-Agent header in the form Inkwell/ (Flutter; +https://systemaobscura.com/inkwell). IFDB receives standard web request metadata (your IP address, the User-Agent, and the requested URL) as any web client would. IFDB is operated by the Interactive Fiction Technology Foundation; its own policies apply to the data it receives. Installing a game. When you tap Install, the app downloads the story file and, if available, the cover image directly from the URL IFDB lists for that game. This is typically the IF Archive (ifarchive.org) or the author's own host. Those hosts receive standard web request metadata. Inkwell does not mirror or rehost game files. The app makes no other network requests. Permissions the app requests Inkwell requests only the standard Android INTERNET permission, which is needed to reach IFDB and download games. It does not request access to contacts, location, camera, microphone, or other sensitive APIs. Children Some works in the IFDB catalog contain content not suitable for children. Inkwell's curated featured list favors family-friendly titles, but the broader catalog is unfiltered. The app is rated accordingly on the Google Play Store. Parents should supervise younger users. Catalog data attribution Catalog data from IFDB.org is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC-BY 4.0) to the Interactive Fiction Technology Foundation. Story files are copyrighted by their respective authors and are downloaded directly from their public hosts. Changes If this policy changes, the effective date above will be updated.
