Inkwell
Inkwell is a free Android reader for interactive fiction. It does for text adventures what Kindle does for novels: a clean library, a curated catalog, and a reading view that gets out of the way. Browse the world's largest IF catalog from inside the app, install any game with a tap, and play it in an embedded interpreter built for long reading sessions.
The Featured list is hand-picked to help new players find a way in. Zork I, the cornerstone of the genre and recently open-sourced by Microsoft under the MIT License. Counterfeit Monkey, Emily Short's word-manipulation puzzle epic. Anchorhead, Michael Gentry's Lovecraftian horror. Photopia, 9:05, Lost Pig, Spider and Web, Slouching Towards Bedlam, Hadean Lands, Aisle, Galatea. Each a landmark of the medium. Beyond the Featured list, the in-app search reaches the full IFDB catalog: thousands of works spanning four decades.
There are no accounts, no ads, and no third-party trackers. The app makes network requests to two places only: the public IFDB API for browsing, and the public archives that host each game for downloads. Story files come directly from their original hosts to your device. Inkwell does not mirror or rehost anything. Catalog metadata is provided by IFDB under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0, courtesy of the Interactive Fiction Technology Foundation.
Today, Inkwell is a reader. Future releases will broaden the curated catalog, refine typography, and improve save-state handling. Further out, an in-app authoring tool and a marketplace for new Inkwell-native works are on the roadmap. The free reader catalog stays free.
