The interpreters that run interactive fiction on Android were built by enthusiasts for enthusiasts. They work. They are not welcoming. A reader who heard about Zork or Photopia and went looking for a way to play would find cluttered interfaces, no curation, and no obvious place to start. Most looked abandoned.

Interactive fiction invented computer storytelling. It has no front door for a new audience.

Inkwell is a clean reader for Android built in Flutter. It draws its catalog from IFDB and the IF Archive, the community databases that have been quietly indexing interactive fiction for decades. The reading view strips everything back. No accounts. No ads. No tracking. You open a title and read.

The app sits on top of existing community infrastructure: the Parchment project handles playback, and IFTF maintains the archive. The build work was identifying what was missing, not reinventing what already existed.

Inkwell is live on Google Play, free to download, with no accounts required.
